2001 TDI Jetta alarm goes off when it rains

May 21, 2010 2 Replies

Hi, Sometimes when it rains, if I open my car door the alarm will go off. I'm not sure why, but it appears that the alarm system thinks I have broken into the car. Once in the car, if I open the door the alarm will go off. The locks also fail to work. I think this must be caused by a short. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

I'd start by looking for leaks under the dash that may be dripping on modules. Also, I'm not sure, but some vehicles you can pernamently disable the alarm--and face it, car alarms are worthless except for annoying your neighbors in the middle of the (raining?) night!

I thought I had read post over at tdiclub.com about wires getting goofed up. Some insulating tape and problem solved. I would guess the wires as they pass though the rubber tube to the body would be my guess where to look.
