2004 1.8T Timing Belt

At what mileage should the timing belt be replaced on an 04 1.8T? VW.com suggests only to check the belt at 60K and 80K miles.

For my 1999 1.8T Passat the recommendation is 105K miles. I have read that failures do occur earlier than that and the results are uber expensive. Mine will get replaced at 80K.

I have changed the timing belt on numerous 1.8L engines in A2's, including

16V's. How difficult will it be to change the belt on my son's 1.8T?

The replacement of the timing belt on your son's 1.8t engine would be best left in the hands of a professional. I've come across one to many DIY'ers screwing themselves in the long run attempting to perform critical services such as this one.

Depending on the vehicle, it is probably hard to very hard. Not sure which 2004 vehicle you have, but....... look here
