2004 passat tdi availability

I started shopping around for an 04 passat tdi this week and discovered availability is very limited in my area (WI). Does anyone have tips on trying to find inventory availability nationwide (other than going to dozens of individual dealer websites - which I've done some of). I've also tried a few of the new car sites, but none of them seem to be able to limit results to the Passat TDI - so the results are useless. It seems the sales people I've talked with either only have access to dealers in the region or are unwilling to look beyond. They are willing to take orders for 2005s though. I'm willing to travel for car pickup.

Any suggestions on searching or even dealers you know that have access to some of these cars, please let me know. I'm currently thinking GLS

- possibly wagon - no beige interior - kinda like blue graphite with anthracite interior in velour or leatherette maybe. While I'm at it, any opinions on the 'leatherette' now offered. Thanks.

Call the dealer and have them do the search! But, you may not find a dealer wanting to give them up, especially with fuel prices.

04 Passat supplies are pretty limited...you may be better off waiting until the 2005's start to arrive in about 90 days.

I stumbled into one by pure dumb luck two weeks ago. Was at the dealer to get service on another car. Wandered up to the showroom while I was waiting, and started talking with the salesman who had sold me the one I drove in.

As it turned out, they had *ONE* Passat TDI on the lot (and didn't expect another for 4-6 weeks). I took a test drive and made the trade on the spot. Getting about 40 mpg...much more on the highway without A/C.

If you do find one: don't expect to get down below sticker much or at at all. Demand is high, and VW knows this. They were giving $750 "loyalty" incentives (if you traded a VW and financed with VW credit)..don't know if this is still in effect or not. And --much to my surprise-- VW credit bettered an interest rate I had from USAA's buying service (VW's orignal rate was 4.9%; USAA offered me a 4.1% when I called to add the car to my insurance, and VW Credit responded with 3.9%).

there are a very few still out there. You would not be able to have much choice in color or options. If you want to be choosy you will need to order next years model. I work at a vw dealership. If I can help email me at snipped-for-privacy@jackingram.com
