help -- problem with 2005 Passat TDI

I'm hoping someone might be able to help me.

I have a 2005 Passat TDI with Auto Trans that's only 2 months old. It's been running fine till about 3 days ago. I noticed a pattern. After work I'd drive it home or to a store nearby (20-30 minutes highway driving), park the car and go inside for about an hour or 30 minutes. Once I get back into the car and drive again on local roads around my town the problems start.

It seems like the car will start shifting at much higher RPMs than usual. I can't usually get it to shift at 3000 RPMs as I've seen it recommended on other forums so it's usually shifting at around

2500-2700. But, lately it seems like the engine is struggling to shift gears around the 2500 range and sometimes the RPM gauge shoots up past 3000 very suddenly. When I slow down at a light, the engine has a pretty quiet sound (which was not normal) while dropping the RPMs down to about 1200 then it kinda "burps" shoots up to 2000 then drops back down again. I push the accelerator and it's struggle again with a lack of power. During these moments when it's struggling or when the engine is quiet the car almost feels like it's coasting. Like there's no power.

Odd thing is that in the morning, when I drive to work it's fine again and it's also fine before I've made my first stop my commute home. It seems like it just acts up when I've started the car after the engine's already been warm.

I'd hate to think that a new car would act up already. Perhaps, my driving needs to be adjusted since it's a diesel car. But, if someone can give me some insight or can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it. Oh BTW, I'm a newbie and not very tech savvy at all. So please translate if you plan to use technical words.

Thanks in advance!

Dorothy

Fill the tank halfway with 93 Octane and that'll take care of the problem.

Never put gas in a diesel. My little joke could cause you some serious problems and provide me with some seriously bad karma. Again, you probably know this, pero gasolina en una coche diesel es muy mal!

This is a group dedicated to aircooled volkswagens, your jetta is watercooled, as you have to put anti-freeze in your radiator. Consequently, replies like mine are common when people post watercooled questions into an aircooled forum.

I know what your problem is! Theres water in the engine! Just kidding, after all, this is an Air Cooled forum (old bugs, ghias, busses...etc) Do you run AC at all? Even if not, sometimes the AC relay(s) that adjusts your throttle can mess things up pretty bad, but its an easy fix. Take it to VW, it should still be under waranty (unless you took it on the gnarliest of road trips ever). Good luck, and post in the water cooled group next time. This is for the old school volksies.
