Hello All,
I have a seatbelt question. The belts in my '94 Jetta are those connected to the door, totally bad idea type. Has anyone ever ripped these out and replaced them with normal belts? Any suggestion are greatly appreciated.

You could but you would be violating federal safety standards that apply to that year car. Then again, it ain't illegal if nobody catches you :)
Never heard of such a retrofit to a Mk3 VW but Mk2 folks have done it before so I can't imagine a Mk3 would be a problem.
P.S. these may not be the ultimate in safety, but if they were bad/unsafe they would have been recalled by now (and haven't) and if the car didn't meet federal safety standards anyway it would have been recalled by now too. I know many of us don't like these belts but I'm not sure that I'd call them a "bad idea". they just weren't a great idea.
insurance rates might be cheaper for vehicles with passive restraints AFAIK
10% discount I believe. I like my 1994 Jetta and the belts work great. The Lap belt is seperate which I like over the all in one deal.
