Does anyone know if there's a way to turn off the check engine light without taking the car to a shop and paying to have it connected to their computer? I know the older models have a switch... Thanks!

Put black tape over the bulb or take the bulb out! That's as cheap as it gets.
...or find someone in your area who has VAG-COM on their laptop and buy them lunch if they'll pull the codes and reset the light. This way you'd actually know why the light came on.
Buying lunch maybe over his budget?
Hmmm...then maybe some chewed gum would be a good substitute for the tape...electric tape is getting up there!
