Any good honest shops in CA, Los Angeles area?

I know someone that needs a honest shop out there to work on a 1995 Jetta

2.0 auto.

Are there any that you recommend?

TIA dave

Sure. Yea thanks... If you don't need a specialist, whatever that means? Yea, we do transmishiuns real gud.... Presheshion Transmishiuns...

Oh Okay. What the hell do I know. At least they were smart enough to know their limitations. :-) Heh! Still, "Routine Service" =/ specialized training in my book. DOH. Yes they appear to be very friendly....

" Precision Automotive If you live on the Los Angeles westside and you're looking for an honest mechanic, I've found them. Actually, my friend Robyn found them, and she told me about them, and now I'm telling you.

I brought my car in for routine service, and they not only charged me less than their estimate for the work, but they also did not charge labor for a piece of work that they started but realized would be better done by a specialist.

As if that is not enough, two days later I got a thank you card in the mail from them! It thanked me for patronizing their business, and included a coupon for 10% off my next visit.

This would be a good shop if it's only wiper blades and an oil change. Read the follow up posts on that chat board. If you are looking for serious VW proprietary technology, you have to go to some of the crooks...

I was wondering why I did not get a bunch of responses.

All she needs is an oil change for her 95 Jetta 2.0. She took it into one shop and they told her it needed a timing belt since she had over 150K miles on it. Of course she called me. I think I peeked at in when it was here and it was fine, or at least I did not see a problem with it.

thanks for the heads-up! later, dave

I've been really happy with the service at Neftin Volkswagen in the Thousand Oaks Auto Mall. McKenna Volkswagen down in Long Beach is also said to be really good, but I havn't had any direct experience with them.

What part of L.A. are you in? I can probably get some other names for you that may be more local.

This is for a customer of mine that has relocated to the L.A. area. Driving anywhere around L.A. should be no problem. I just want to try to provide some options since I can't do the long distance repairs. lol

Nooo! McKenna VW is in Huntington Beach and they're a bunch of crooks. Timmons VW in Long Beach (on Cherry) is OK. There are a couple independent shops in Huntington Beach that are real good. I'll post up if I can remember who they are.

VW Specialties in Huntington Beach was the independent shop I was thinking of. There are a couple other decent dealers in Orange County as well.

You're right. They're just a few blocks from the Super Autobacs store and DVD planet, aren't they?

Really? I'd heard good things about them.

Is that the one off the freeway with the giant New Beetles above the dealership?

No, that's Pacific VW in Torrance, I think.

I live in Agoura Hills. I'm so rarely down there, I start to lose track of where each city ends and begins once I'm outside Fox Hills.
