'Anyone heard a TDI...

With a different than stock muffler?? I am curious what they sound like with a "performance" or no muffler at all. I have the Golf with the turned down tailpipes, I'd like it if the pipes stuck out from under the bumper, but I need to cut a spot out of the trim piece under there. Don't the GTIs have factory pipes through the bumper??

Yep. Later 1.8T and VR6 GTIs as well as later 1.8T and VR6 Jettas have the tailpipe sticking str8 out and the rear valence is cut out for it. But the earlier A4 based 1.8Ts and VR6s had the turned-down tips. I'd just go to your VW dealer's parts counter and get a rear bumper valance from one of the later 1.8Ts or VR6s.

Keep in mind that, with the TDI, the turned down exhaust helps prevent soot buildup on the back of the car.
