Changing driveaxle... method to get inner CV out?

I'm in the process of replacing my driveaxle and today was a struggle getting the old one out. The problem was getting the inner CV joint out of its little space. Even having slightly jacked up the motor, we could not gain much more clearance to get the inner end out very easily.

To anyone who has done this procedure... How did you get that sucker out? It's just that inner CV. How do you get it in/out a little easier?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

use a pickel fork for this and it works fine.

On my A2 Jetta 8v drivers side, I had to drop the control arm off the ball joint, and take the outer side of the driveaxle out of the wheel first. (dont forget to loosen the axle nut with the car still on the ground) With the other end end free, the inside comes out with no problem. I've heard this isn't needed on the passenger side.

As said before, but in a little bit more detail:

1) Take the 30mm axle nut off with car on ground 2) Jack up front end and support with jack stands. 3) Use a 17mm Wrench on the bolt, and a socket on the nut, and remove the ball joint bolt. Tap the ball joint out of the spindle. 4) If you have vented rotors, just stick a screw driver inbetween them, to stop the axle from turning, or you may tighten one lug, and put a breaker bar on it (I've done this before) 5) Use the 8mm "triple square" socket to remove the axle bolts, and then you should be able to lower it out from the car in under a few seconds.

Installation is the exact reverse of removal. Unless you repack the CV's and stuff.
