checking vehicle type?

Don't know whether anyone can help me out here. I have just bought a new golf gt tdi dsg - nice car. I am a little puzzled though. The stamp at the front of the service book identifies the car as a Golf 2.0 Sport. Now I know that the Sport doesn't come with a 2ltr engine, I am supposed to have a GT - how can I check what I have actually got?

There are numerous VIN decoders on the Web; I can't vouch for their accuracy, so I'll just suggest you search for Volkswagen VIN decoders using your favorite search engine.

Thanks Bert - I have checked out the car on a vw VIN decoder. I am afraid it doesn't tell me anything other than the car is a vw golf assembled in brussels. Apparently the VIN code has zzz in the middle which it states: is used by Volkswagen as a filler character. That means the information for that part of the VIN is not provided. So it tells me nothing about the engine or even body style.

Hi:

I own a 1988 VW Cabriolet Convertible. The VIN number tells me quite a bit, including where manufactured, vehicle type (such as passenger car, pickup truck, etc.), model, engine type (such as a 1780 CC 90 HP 4 cylinder), restraint system (such as manual seatbelts), and the name of the assembly plant). Ask your dealer to provide you with a breakdown of your VIN number.

zzz usually means it for the Euro market. If it's a USA car then e-mail me the VIN and will check it out.

On my own UK 2005 2.0 TDI GT Golf, both the service book, and the sticker underneath the boot/trunk carpet says its a 2.0 Sport. I think this is what they call them on the continent rather than the GT.
