Chip for 2.0L

I can't stand it anymore.

The gutless wonder (a.k.a Annie, the New Beetle) is sucking fuel like a drunken sailor at a bar, little getup and go, and is really not much fun to drive. In a 150 kilometre trip, the car went through 1/2 tank of gas....yet VW can't find anything wrong with the car...I have driven a 2.0L Jetta with a chip, and I liked the power and performance...however, what do people generally suggest that makes a decent improvement in performance and fuel economy?

Thanks,

Peter

Peter,

This has the same engine as my Golf (automatic) and I get 250kms per 1/2 tank, so this would suggest that something is wrong or the aerodynamics of the bug is horrible.

A chip is going to give little power gain, ( I can't stand it anymore.

I've driven enough 2.0L VWs to know that the fuel economy should be better...my '90 Jetta 1.8L with Automatic gets better mileage...and it's revving higher than the Beetle...

There's definately something wrong if you're getting around 16-17L per

100kms of travel... (25 litres of fuel to 150k trip, 25L is a bit less then 1/2 tank) My dad's new Golf, with its engine brand new and tight only ever got 12-13L per 100kms in city driving at worst (new car in the winter... that's going to be bad), it's down to 8L per 100km now.

I am hesitant to chip the car, because being leased...I dunno if I will get my money out of it. I have elevated the issue to VW Canada, and will make a stink out of it if needed...My Jetta gets better mileage and it's 14 years old...at 120 km/h, it revs around 4000 RPM...the Beetle is at 2900-3100 and consumes waaaaay more fuel.

Three dealers (Guelph Volkswagen, Crosby Volkswagen, and Volkswagen Waterloo) have not been able to find an issue. Fuel sending unit and instrument cluster have been replaced. But at this point, I'll just become a pain in VW Canada's side until they rectify the issue!
