how can you tell the difference between cis and cis-e fuel injection?

Follow the braided steel fuel lines (4 + 1 for the cold start injector) from the injectors back to the fuel regulator. The top of the fuel regulator where the fuel lines come out was painted black on CIS and was a natural metal finish on CIS-e. At least that is how it was on A2…

IIRC With CIS-E you should find a little rectangular gray box (electronic Fuel Pressure Regulator) attached to the fuel distributor with two screws. It also has an electrical plug going to it. The CIS has a mechanical Fuel Pressure Regulator (AKA Warm Up Regulator) attached to the engine block and it has 2 fuel lines running to it from the fuel distributor. later, dave
