Drop or Lift I plan to replace my first clutch on a 83 Rabbit no air & with power steering! In the past with straight engines I was able to lift out the engine & trans with a cherry picker but after referring to several VW manuals they all state that the engine & trans must be dropped. Dropping an engine for a home garage seems like quite a chore with out the proper set up. Can the engine & trans as one unit be lifted up & out. Thank you for your anticipated responses. Mike

Why not just replace the clutch with the engine in the car?
Engine stays in and trans comes out the bottom. At work I can do the job in under 3 hours! It al depends how many times I stop for a snack...
