Does any one know how to replace the passenger side front directional signal bulb in a 1997 Passat?

Yes, I do!
Just a guess but if it's anything like on the A3s (the look is similar) you should be able to pry out the center blank that's next to it, then the lamp assembly is probably screwed into the bumper so remove the screw and then you should be able to get at the bulb.
Yep, that's it, at least for the USA version Passat. Sometimes you can reach up from under the bumper depending what's all in the way but I just remove the reflector and then the lens to get the bulb out. Figure 1/2hour since it's your 1st time.
