GTI Interior into a Jetta?

May 13, 2004 4 Replies

Hi everyone....

I've got the chance to get a great interior from a 92 GTI for $50....however, will it fit into my 1990 Jetta?

I am concerned about the rear seats...as in the GTI they fold down...any idea as to how I can fasten them on my Jetta so the seatback remains attached to the vehicle?

Thanks,

Peter

If they are grey and black, I have a set of rear seats.

Hey Pete, I've seen it done. Required the welding on of the lugs to clip the seat backs too, and then cutting away the metal work between the trunk and passenger area of the Jetta. That's the bit that didn't impress me, not sure what it does to the body's torsional rigidity or even crash-worthiness. I assume you've got a 2-door. If you can get a matching rear bench from a Jetta then that's probably the best way to go. Or weld the lugs on but don't expect to have them fold down for anything useful.

Pete, I'll make an educated guess and say no, the rear seats from the GTI hatchback will not work in your Jetta...
