How to get VW parts from Germany?

Question

Need help:Need to order German spec black bumper "impact strips", front and back formy 2003 Golf.  These are about 1/3 the price in Gemany (checked at a VWdealer when I was there last week but couldn't carry them back to US onplane).  Price difference is roughly $240 here vs $85 there for all 3 parts(!)In addition, the same bumper strips I checked on at a US dealer come primedonly and need to be painted.How can these things be ordered from Germany?Also, this got me thinking - lots of other VW parts may be much cheaperthere as well.Thanks for any ideas on this!

Do a google search for "+volkswagen +teile site:.de" (the site:.de partrestricts the search to domains registered in Germany). Teile is Germanfor parts. You will find a number of places selling VW parts, contact afew of them and see if they will ship to overseas.Tom Levigne wrote:

Why couldn't you get it on a plane? I check bookcases, filing cabinets and bumpers in. Just be creative and make a box that is within the airline specs and fits the stuff you want to pack. Who cares if everyone laughs at the baggage claim? I've had some explaining to do at the customs, but never unpacking or annoying conversations.

Or else, a more sustainable way is to look for an internship opportunity on that side of the ocean for your little brother, son, or other relative and have them send parts. That will add $50 to shipping, but still is a lot cheaper. BTW Keep an eye on the Euro/Dollar conversion, that takes a lot of fun out of ordering European stuff.
