injector pump and shifter

Hi Gang

I was thinking of buying a new Golf TDI but seem to be reading about a lot of problems with fuel injector pumps having to be replaced at a cost of about $2500.00.

Doesn't VW have a decent pump or at least a good warranty on these pumps?

I also had a 1970 and 1973 VW bugs on which I put in an Indy shifter which a real nice "T" handle. (still have the shifter)

I was wondering if anyone knows of a shifter which is similar for the new Golf.

This is an excellent newsgroup. Thanks for any comments.

That's a bunch of bull! Our shop has only replaced maybe 3-4 pumps since

1999!

In the last 4 years, I can only think of 2 TDI injector pumps that have failed, so I would have to say it is a very rare problem. What year model are you thinking of getting?

As for the shifter, if you get an automatic, it will be a T handle knob on the gear selector. If you get a manual, I'm sure one could be mounted onto the shift rod if one really wanted to.

Where were you reading about all the "bad" pumps?

How about that price tag? Is that really the cost?

Not sure on the price because the ones we did were under warranty.
