My 2001 owners manual says 80,000 km for the automatic, and 96,000 for manual. When I had the belt done in my manual TDI earlier this year, they used the 2003-spec belt, which increases the interval to something in the area of 124,000 km for the standard.
Check TDIclub.com There was a change part way through 2001 models. The new models have a TB that only needs to be changed at 80,000 miles. The old ones were either 40 or 60. When you replace yours, you can use the newer
80k belt. I have an 02 automatice and belt is to be changed at 80k.John
