Rekeying door locks for 87 VW Fox

It's really easy. I had one written up somewhere but I can't find it right now. Anyway the basic idea is to go to a junkyard and buy a couple door handles just for the lock cylinders - then pull the lock cylinder out of your old handle and dump all the tumblers on a table. then start with the key you want to use and put the tumbler back in until you have all the tumblers in the lock and you can put the key in and have it pull all the tumblers flush with the cylinder. Clean, lube, and reassemble et voila. Sounds hard but really once you've done one you can do another in 5 minutes. I impressed the hell out of my neigbor once by rekeying one of his old door handles in about 5 min. while he watched me. (someone had busted into his car by ripping the handles off)

Yes, it's that easy. You may need a few locks (either A1 or A2 will do) to accomplish it, since many of the slotted bronze tumblers are well-worn. Many are identified by stamp marks 1, 2, 3 or 4, so you can sometimes go straight to the right tumblers. The ignition lock is a slightly more complex matter, however - nine (IIRC) tumblers that are different than the door lock tumblers, and extracting these is a little tougher (but well described in Bentley).
