Tires . . . yet again

Dear NG: It's almost time to get some 185-14/60 rubber for the new (used) Audi rims that will (modestly) upgrade my 'Rocco. Perusing TireRackdotcom, I have settled on the Yokohama HS4. I know the Dunlop D60-A2 (now superseded I think) has been mentioned frequently here, but it got poor reviews for noise and wear. Any testimonials/experience? My criteria include cost and reasonable life expectancy at a speed rating one or two notches above basic. Ambition is two-lane touring, not racing; it will not see snow again. TIA, H2Only

I have to strongly backup your choice of the Yoko Avid HS4s. I replaced the Michelin Pilots on my girlfriend's car with a set of these tires, and I have to say that I'm impressed with the wet handling (we live in the Puget Sound area) and the noticeably smoother, quieter ride. They're all-season, the treadwear rating is impressive at 500, and the price is definitely right. I've always put the house brand tire from Discount Tires (Road Huggers) on my GTI since they are good, inexpensive tires without the name-brand markup, but next time I'm going to go with Yokos.
