New shocks and struts for 96 Grand Am SE

I've got a 96 Pontiac Grand Am SE V6. The stock struts in the front give a very bumpy ride, I'm told it's because they don't support the weight of the
front of the vehicle very well and bottom out easily. There's nothing wrong with them but I don't like the ride that they give so I was thinking of replacing them with some Gabriel Gas Rider struts and shocks for the rear and I need to know whether or not I will get a softer, less bumpy ride with this brand of struts and shocks or if there if there is a better alternative.. If anybody has done the same thing please let me know how your Grand Am if riding now with better struts and shocks. Any replies will be appreciated.
