Programming Remote Entry & DIC for 2000 LeSabre

I have seen several postings here regarding this subject, but they seem to differ in their instructions. Basically I have a used remote that I want to use with my 2000 LeSabre Limited. I do have one working remote, and the "new" used remote has the same GM part #.

Some have advised to run a jumper wire from one data link connector to another, some have mentioned the use of a "scan tool" (what is that?), some say you just sit in the car and turn the key & push the buttons in the correct order (without tools or jumpers), and some suggest only the dealer can do this with a Tech II diagnostic tool.

Can someone please tell me how to program my 2000 LeSabre for my two remotes and if any tools or jumper wires (or dealers) are required?

Also, is there a way for me to program the Personal Choice / Driver Information Center to display my name rather than "Driver 1" & "Driver

2"? The owner's manual says this is possible and refers me to the dealer for the programming process.

Thank you,

Christopher

Unfortunately it appears that this car requires the use of a Tech 2 scan tool to program remotes.

The procedure and tools required to program remotes usually differs between models, and often between years as well..

The reason you see different ways to program remotes is because each vehicle line, make and model is different, even different years make a difference in how they are put into programming mode. For instance a on a 2000 lesabre you can only program the remotes with a scan tool according to the service manual...If needed I can quote it right out of the manual.. also to enter your name in the personalization feature a scan tool is also required..to my knowledge only a Tech II is able to do both functions... These are available to other garages than just dealers, but the price is prohibitive for most garages.. Sorry there is no DIY available, I do this for a living, and I can't wait till someone gets a brain and gives us a default programming sequence for all gm vehicles....... Tek
