Recently discovered what may turn up to be a long term problem with the wiring going to the driver's door. Ground wire is heavier guage than expected (12 ga stranded), most other wires in harness are 16 ga; unusually stiff for this type of application. Due to frequent flexing opening/closing door, caused wire to fatigue and fail.
Results/symptoms: Initially, door controls function sporadically (door locks won't work with door open, but work with door partially closed).
Longer term results - ground wire and insulation breaks completely. All door controls from driver's door not functioning: Remote mirrors don't work Power windows won't work (from driver's control) Power windows won't work (from any control; groun also effects lock- out button) Power lock won't work from driver's control Driver's door won't respond to remote (must manually lock/unlock driver's door)
Not a big problem to repair the break, but have concerns that stiff wire will continue to be a problem 'long term'. This took three years to surface - don't know how long until the splice or adjacent portion of the wire fatigues & fails.
