Defender 90 Turbo Diesel - How many mpg?

Hi All,

There's a 1990 90 Turbo Diesel up for sale around the corner, I'm very tempted, can anyone give me an idea of the fuel consumption they get from theirs please? It'll get normal car use (with playing a bit at the w/e!), 15 mile commute to work, running to and fro the shops, that sort of thing.

Cheers Neville

if its a 200tdi engine then about 25-27mpg on average . fuel consumption will be good if you stick to 55mph and then will go up higher if you throttle it over 60mph with the turbo pulling and increased fuel input .

if its a 19j turbo diesel slightly less mpg than the 200tdi and a fair bit less power from engine .

you shouldnt see less than 24mpg anyway .

i think landrover used the 19j turbo engine in that year and also changed half way through to the 200tdi .

I do a round trip of 20 miles (back and for to work) every day plus a bit of towing and playing and I average 23/24 mpg on a good week. Mind you, thats with mud tyres and about 300kg of gear in the back. Driven sensibly, you should be able to get 25ish, 27+ on a run. My advice, save a bit more cash and get a Tdi, it will work out cheaper in the end!
