Ford Galaxy Diesel opinions

Hi all

AM looking ot get a ford galaxy fo rtaxi/airport runs. They seem quite popular around here , but all the ones on the road are sub 50k and less then

4 years old.

I will have around 12k to spend but the vehicle will need to be good for

200k. Is this a reasonable request with regualr servicing and maintenance from a ford diesel.

Or us there an alternative. The Zafira is a little small and the Toyoyt Previa is a little expensive.

Previas seem to be generally agreed to be bulletproof. Don't know about diesel versions though.

200k how quickly? Do Galaxys rust? My experience of Fords that clock up high mileages is that they end up pretty s**te, but they're all cars that are also 10 years old, having clocked up their 100k+ miles over time, rather than getting a lot of intense motorway use as a taxi.

Yup. should be no problem

Not really, no. Previas are crap to drive, Zafira rear seats are easy to get into, impossible to get back out of

Its a VAG engine in all of the Galaxy/sharan/ etc. Go for the the PD115, although the 130 is the better engine and no extra juicy. At £12k you should get a 130.

They'll do the mileage, with proper regular servicing- the PD oil you'll find expensive as you'll be changing it pretty often with your anticipated mileage per year. Airflow meters will die about every 60-80k (£200) and EGR valves about every 100k (£150), the air con will probably die (condensors rot, and receiver dryer pipes shear off) but otherwise they're pretty tough.

Cylinder heads seem to go porous round about 150-200K as well.
