?? For Those Using Battery Maintainers??

Do y'all find that using it only during the cold winter months is adequate, pulling it off during warmer spring/summer/first part of fall months. Or once you begin using it, do you just leave it hooked up year round???

TIA

I don't use mine anymore since I don't have a garage at the moment, but when I did, I religiously hooked up the charger in winter, and only sporadically in warmer weather - usually when I was sure I wouldn't be using the car for a week or more or when I was getting something out of the trunk anyway and it was easy to connect it up. Now that the car lives on the road I've realised how good the Westco battery is: it's only run down completely once and required disconnecting, bringing inside, and recharging for two days or so until it was fully charged. At that point the car had been standing in sub-zero (C) temperatures for over two weeks without being driven. Since then I've gone for up to a week without using the car and it still cranks ok, though not nearly as vigorously as if I drive it every day. If your battery is still relatively ok you should be able to go for a week or more without driving/charging it. If you drive regularly anyway (i.e. every day) I doubt you'll need to connect it up every time.

In 2 or 3 weeks, the radio can drain the battery enough to prevent starting, from the constant trickle that keeps the station presets alive. I wish I could disable that, since I *never* listen to the stupid radio.

Not to mention the clock having to be kept in the proper time, even though it is not on, being displayed. Ironic thing is that I have NEVER had a vehicle that needed one of these things. Has to be that wanna be battery (Size, type, etc.)
