Car pricing question - possibly for PeteM

Very late E36 M3 (1998), with about 130k on the clock in what looks like decent condition. Any idea how much they're worth these days?

There's a chance of swapping one for the RX7 TT, which is worth around

5.5k-6k...

Little bit miley but that'll be why it's cheap. As long as it had the

1200 mile "running in service" and is clean and tidy, drives well and is HPI clear, I'd say go for it. Just make sure you get to hear it start from cold - you don't want one with mega piston slap, although a bit of piston slap (for a couple of minutes from cold start) isn't that all unusual, just make sure it disappears completely once up to temp.

If it doesn't have service history, or the history doesn't mention the

1200 mile service, be careful. The trade won't offer much at all for one which didn't have it [1] Doesn't mean it'll be a pup, but the earliest E46 M3s are booked at £7600 without nav or 19" alloys at 130k miles. [1] 'Significantly less' is the official phrase...

OK, thanks for the advice.

Well, I was thinking that I'll have a look at it and if I like it and the bloke likes my RX7, I may consider doing a deal *if* it's unlikely that I'd lose money on it.

Translates into "f*ck all", I'd assume?

Are you saying that 'cos E46s are this cheap - think how much E36s are worth - or was there a model name mix up somewhere there?

If an E46 is that cheap, then an E36 has to be a couple of grand cheaper going by the way things like this tend to go, pricewise.

E36 isn't in the guide, so I'm basing my estimate on the value of the earliest E46. Mr. Average M3 buyer is likely to want either a late E36 or an early E46 - but he's more likely to want the E46 if it's not a huge amount more expensive, so that will devalue the E36.

You know depreciation man..
