OK, I said wanted smaller and cheaper to run but....

The missus, who wants me to have a smaller newer car sent me thelink to=20 this.

Normally dealer and private sale, T16 convertables normally go between=20 =A34 and 6k even for the older ones.

This one I think won't get close, and probably wont hit reserve, becaue=20 the purist won't won't the bloack rubber bumpers painted, and the=20 Aesthetes who normally buy convertables would the colour coded bumpers,=20 but hate the scabby look of them.

It's one of the later ones so it should have the later gearbox (much=20 stronger), the water cooled mitsu turbo, and the Saab 9000 compatible=20 brake system (with rear handbrake) and the 9000 bolt pattern, so a=20 better choice of wheels should i wish to change them. very tempting I can tell you.

I've mailed the seller, asked the questions. How far up the boost gauge does it go on full boost? After replacing the hood, does it open and close properly? Any damage to the hood since replacement? Does it have the leather and Aircon options (yes sometimes the roof will=20 be shut on a wet day, and Saabs get bloody hot when sealed inside)?

Reason I asked about the hood and interior is that all the photos show=20 it open, but nothing of the dash/seats.

I've asked if he has any interior photos he could send.

"Interior is cloth in good condition."

Ah, good point, missed that in the description. It's more normal for the interior in a Saab drop top to be Leather. Cloth is a very rare downgrade.

Or this might convince me to stop playing with Silly Saabs

Only thing putting me off is, there was never any 2.0VTEC, it was 2.0i=20 or 2.2VTEC.

I've mailed to ask about mileage, service history, and whether it is=20 manual/auto and UK or Jap car.

Waiting for reply, wonder if they will bother.

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news but........ it won't go up the boost gauge very far as its not a T16, but a plain 16V, not even an LPT just a

130bhp 900i.

Tell tales are the cloth interior, missing lower airdam and smaller front wing trims as well as the poorly fitted aero kit, even mine which gets bumped about on track and is scuffed up has better fit and finish than those.

Its worth about 800quid, maybe a grand as its summer. I had a dark blue 48K

900i Convertable that was mint go through a few months ago for £2000, that was a fair price for it as it was lurvley - don't think that one compares.

Oh you'll also notice only the grill says turbo - the bonnet has small Saab badges on the side as per the 900i rather than Turbo ones.

Cause I could be wrong and it could have had a big front smash which required a new bonnet, trim, kit and bonnet which is why it has 900i parts - but I don;'t think you want it either way in that case.

I think we've had this argument before - my white 900 stickered up with a T45 Safety Devices cage, black wheels with big AP's behind them and about

2mm off the ground was in no way gay!!

Stick up a pic of it and the black 'un. Then we'll see! ;)

Hmm, I'm almost considering looking for a Saab 900 Turbo. Don't want a drop top one though. Nice 3 door in black with leather would be nice.

What do they do to the gallon? Approximately....

5K will get you mine, 7000 miles on it since build. In black, Buffalo Leather. 307bhp, 314ftlbs, Big brakes, Chargecooling by Lotus etc. etc. etc. Stupid money of reciepts and 2300 odd hours build time. 30mpg pootling about - 4mpg at 162mph.

You sure?

It doesw say "SAAB 900 Convertable 5 speed manual, with full pressure turbo "

Like you say, could be a mash and fixup.

But it does state full pressure turbo. Didn't notice the badging on the bonnet. Should have, I see the proper ones every day.

Nope, just decode it. All most sense if you speak italian or enhanced giberish.

Looking again I'd say mash and fixup - bonnet shut line isn't straight either. TBH a bent T16 is much much worse than a ropey but straigh i ;-)

I was putting money on the owner not knowing the difference, but as they've stated its a FPT they must do.

I get average 29 average on my weekly 200 miles worth of cummuting.

If I do a 200 miles 1 day blast, I get about 32 at an average of 80-90 on the motorway.

Arround town I get about 27. But it is silver, and the square front. Will need a bit of work soon. and I think I found out where the gradual oil leak is, and why it might have caused at least one engine mount, and one set of lower wishbone bushes to be a little bit buggered (not terminal, passed the last 2 MOTs, but just a little worn).

I think it is coming from the oil cooler under the passenger headlight, might need replacing with a scrapper, or might just need a new hose or fitting. Doesn't lose a lot, about 3/4 of a litre over 3000 miles. Little less than standard use for a decent running Alfa.

If the one mount, and the wishbone bushes were changed, and the oil cooler leak fixed it would be spot on.

Congrats on a fine realisation. 5000 UKP seems to be a bargain for such a car.

Truly impressif!

Silver, 3 door, burgundy velour, and no AC.

Yeah I know, very hot inside most of the time, but leccy windows and and big power sunroof help.

I was going to ask £1200 and see about offers (closer it gets more chance of getting the Blaupunkt modena CD headunit, otherwise the Saab radio cassette goes back in), as I reckon including buying it, I'm in for £1700, it has MOT until March, and Tax until January. Matt is checking if someone he knows wants it, the guy wants to pay £2500 for a minter, so I reckon Matt might be on to a earner.

Tyes on front have about 1-2 mmm above the top of the wear marker, rear have near full tread (V rated Avon ZV1 all round), new Gaz shocks fitted just after Xmas. New front wheel bearings and ball joints, and at that time all the bushes where checked and said to be OK (again just after Xmas).

had a new trackrod end replaced, and both CV boots done. Bailey alloy dumpvalve (recirc not noisemaker) and a cheap conefilter with home made cold air ducting (I have the original airbox and piping).

20 year old Speakers replaced with 4" kickers. had a little welding to the front inner arches where someone had bodged changing either the wheel bearings or the ball joints, ripped the metal, and rust had got in (common fault when not done by a Saab specialist, or at elast one that actually cared). And a small ammount of welding in the passenger rear inner arch that I found between MOTs.

New discs and calipers at front, pads all round, second hand servo as the old one had a diaphram leak and a new one is £300. New timing chain (old one had most of it's life left, but the tensioner was an obsolete one that needed replacing, so I had a new chain rolled in as the sprockets were fine, while the covers were off).

Most of the VAC hose has been replaced, boosts right to the point it is supposed to. in second on a damp road at about 40 you get squirming and spinning with your foot right flat down.

The car has the owners handbook in the owners wallet, plus a later models service book from when the last owners bought it from Sheardley hall motors as the original was missing when Sheardley got it in. I have all the MOTs except one, from New, and the last few (maybe 5) tax discs.

Plus I have all the reciepts for it for the work I've had done, they go with it, but the credit card numbers will be obscured ;) you dodgy scouser.

Bad bits, one piece of internal trim (the box behind the lower console, because I buggered up the original) is the wrong colour, but the dash is the original and rare burgundy. Most other burgundy interior cars had black dashes.

Cruise control doesn't work, but everything has been checked or changed, on thing not done is the switch stalk.

One small patch of visible rust on the drivers front wing. one small patch of bubbling on the very bottom of the tail gate, not gone through and not visible because it goes below the bumper. Fair ammount of small patches of laquer flaking. Biggish chip in the windscreen, been repaired by visisble. The mechanical faults I mentioned before, all still OK, but not perfect.

All the really expensive stuff has already been sorted by me, just run out of steam and fancy a change.

Best bit, is most B plate Saabs are either 8v turbos, or 1985 B plate

16v turbos. This is a 1984 B plate 16V turbo, the very year they were introduced.

I've tried to be really straight and honest here, becuase this isn't a normal car ad selling to people that you will never hear from again.

0-60 in about 8 seconds, maybe a bit quicker. Should top out at about 130-135 on the clock. Can shift a 28" Widescreen boxed, and a months shopping at the same time with the back seats flat. Average 29 to the gallon mixed town and motorway. near 135k but taken 20 years to get there. Just about run in for a Saab engine.

Leccy windows, sunroof and mirrors work, but the heated seats don't although you don't need them in this country, the heater works well enough without. Had 5 large adults in no problem, and with the drivers eat in my position, I can sit in the back comfortably (6'2" with very long legs).

Headlining has done the usual Saab droop trick, so it has been stapled up. looks tidy enough till you inspect it. Planned to replace, but once stapled never thought about it again.
