At month paid trial to start with. Very small company, but seems OK. Still doing internet stuff, but doing proper web development.
At the very least, it is another month money.

Well batted. Is it closer to home?
Good stuff.
Easy to get a job if you're motivated enough to do it.
nice one! that was quick!
Good stuff! Glad for you matey!
20 minutes of local roads (when busy) instead of 35 minutes of motorway/A road.
I get to see people walking when I drive to work. Only down side, it is a "Police Campaign" area, because the whole road is 30MPH dual carriageway, and I've seen one speed gun day, and one "traffic survey" day. And this morning, on the other side was a traffic officer with a walkie talkie, so I guess they were planning the same kind of "survey" that way too.
First interview, and first job I applied for. Thought the interview was really bad (his technique as much as anything), like i was taking up too much time by just turning up. but he phoned me back asked me if I still wanted that trial. Done 2 days now.
Like I say, it might only be a month.
Heh. You never know with an interview.
I went to 2 - first one I thought went very well. I didn't get the job.
Second one was a lot less formal - no competency based questions, just talking about what I'm about and what I can do for them. I was offered a half day trial within 24 hours, and the job offer came the next business day.
I get so pissed off with people moaning about the company they're working for then saying 'there's no jobs out there'.... I've been proof of the opposite to my collegues having had 3 different jobs in just over
2 years. If you really want a job, you'll find one.
Good work!!
Don't rem any of your code and you'll be there forever. ; )

Similar here; back in December I had the interview for the job I've got now. It was my first in about 3 years and I thought I'd fluffed it because I kinda stumbled through the interview, and I forgot the questions I'd prepared...
Left with a really bad vibe but they phoned me back and offered me the job. I was pretty shocked TBH but they told me I had the right attitude, experience and that I'd fit well within the company...
The situation I'm in during the trial is, the site was built a developers two generations ago. The current developer who is becoming senior developer made excuses not to touch it. I get to update and sort it, but there isn't time to rebuild it from scratch. The whole admin(including login), property adding, property amending, and photo management section of the site is one PHP script. 3000 lines of combined PHP including custom PHP and Javascript functions, and the layout.
I would have written the functions into seperate files, and used them as includes, even purely from a readability point of view. Bearing in mind there is already a functions.php file, as well as the main admin section.
That is the best post in a car modifications group, ever!
Yep - err right.......
Have to take your word on all of the preceeding.
Carl, I seriously hope that this works out for you, because you've always struck me as someone who deserves and would appreciate a break in life.
Go for it 110% and make it impossible for them to consider not hiring you at the end of the trial.
I sometimes feel, WTF did I do wrong. Work hard, get no where. I wonder if I notice it more than others, or I'm just a whining bastard.
Well, you did spend the preceding n years working for people who didn't give a toss about you. If your employer is like that, you're not going to get on while you're with them.
Anyway hope you get on with the new one.
cheers, clive
It's not just you.
It's the reason why I've had 4 jobs in the time I've been subbed to this NG.
It could be last-in-first-out syndrome, the trouble with IT companies is they tend to be short lived...
Job with the local authority then. Not the best pay in the world, but the holidays, pension, T&Cs etc are the best. Then there's the meetings - lots of meetings. Just sit and listen then back as you were.... The best thing for the IT bods though is that no one really understands what they do, and they keep it that way. You won't stretch yourself very much, but your wages are always there every month and as I said earlier, there's
33 days holidays a year plus bank statutory holidays, plus full sick pay for 6 months etc.I thoroughly recommend it...
