79 carb cleaner issue

I have been trying to find a picture of a stock air cleaner for a 302,

1979. I have recently aquired a fox chassis futura that has had tons of money dropped into it and the problem is still the same. I can do a work around but I would like to get everything back the way it is supposed to be before going any further.

The vent in the front passenger side below the battery tray at the gas cannister has a big hose comming off it and has been blocked off with what looks to be a drain plug bolt.

The air cleaner has a rubber plug to the left of the snorkel, it may be factory or someone may have put it in after the fact. It looks to me to be the logical place for that gas cannister hose, if so I need an elbow at least four inches long to hook up to the cut hose.

The books I have show it going toward the carb, but is very non specific as to where exactly. "But now is the time for the younger men to lock in rough encounters, time for me to yield to the pains of old age. But there was a day I shone among the champions."

The only picture I have shows it going to the vent tube on the top of the carb bowl. I'll see if I can find any better pics or diagrams as mine is not really specific either. StuK

I went to the local ford dealer today and looked at all his microfilche's. Nothing there but he did say they used to have a hole in the air cleaner on some model, but he forgets which, it was definately pre-80 because he can't go back farther than that.

What we determined is:

go to aftermarket and find something like fram, puralator etc. that has the elbow with the clip to fit that opening, then modify it to get it to the hose. It will have no effect on the engine, but one doesn't want to have big hoses running around the engine compartment with bolts sticking out of them.

I think the problem lays in the gas cap or possibly a hose running from tank to gas cannister. I looked before, but didn't really get up close and personal. It has to be kinked or wrong cap, nothing else that I can think of............

thanks, I still would like to see what you come up with.
