Sort of OT

Hello all! I just wanted to see if anyone out there has had any experience with auto shipping. I am currently living in Hawaii, stationed here in the Marine Corps. (I know I know, tough duty but someone has to do it!) Well, since I am leaving the service, the Marine Corps will ship one vehicle back to the mainland for me. The wife MADE me ship the Expedition (family thing ya know). So now I have to ship my Mustang out of pocket. Any one know of any good, reputable companies that do this. I have been quoted everything from $1,548-1900.

Then came a company named Trusty Transport out of Tempe, AZ. They quoted me just over 700 bucks from Hawaii to Falls Church, VA. Anyone ever here of this company? My daddy all ways taught me, if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is.

Just wanted to pick your brains for any info you might have on good auto shipping companies and if anyone has ever heard of Trusty Transport.

Check with TMO to see if the company shipping the SUV will ship your car also, at your expense. At least that way you would be dealing with the same shipper and make drop-off and pick-up easier. If you go with Trusty, read the fine print and check for complaints thru the Better Business Bureau. Semper Fi Thanks for your service!

Jesse,

I was told earlier last year that they were going to start shipping two vehicles at the governments expense. I guess that hasn't taken effect yet.

When I left hickam, I sent my Grand Cherokee to LA. Cost was $800. I sent my SHO to Orlando and had the government pay for that one. It was going to be $1500 to ship the SHO. I shipped the Grand Cherokee through Matson. Didn't have a scratch on it when it arrived in L.A.

Basically, I had the government pay for the more expensive of the two and I drove (at their expense) from LA to Georgia. It was a very worthwhile trip. We had a blast and came out ahead. They will pay to send you to LA and then drive to your home of record. Then, they have to pay the full federal driving rate from your home to the port round trip to pick up your other car. They also pay mileage for the car you just picked up.

My recent experience with going with the guy that talks a good story and charges less is, you get what you pay for. Not my car, but my antiques... thousands of dollars worth of damage by a moving company. I decided (I know you cant) to drive my car out, glad I did!

Aw Shit! So now you have to fight with their insurance but that won't replace those antiques!

When we moved here from Europe I just hired a 20" container and we did all our packing ourselves. Even loading it into the darned thing as well as unloading it here. Virtually nothing was damaged... There are definate advantages to the DIY U-Haul way.

Glad your settling in tho. Did ya have a chance yet to look under Shug and see what is ailing the poor girl?

HI Paul, nope not yet. Finally found the floor jack and jack stands, but have other things to do first, that and it's been just plain COLD. Neither of us wants to roll around on cold concrete just yet LOL. She has been parked since we moved in though, the truck has been a joy I would love it if you and your bride could come see us before you escape to Europe!

*L* I hear ya hon. It's cold here as well. (at least for Fla standards) Looks like no escape to Europe, the job offer fell thru. At best it may be an xmas vacation to see my parents.

One of these days we'll make it, right now we have rescue dogs up the wazoo. :-)

Glad your getting settled tho and even on this side of the coast...

Wanna hear something funny? Like I said, Shug has been geiven a much deserved rest after her cross country trip and the scenic tour of Tennessee (about 4500 miles in 5 weeks) We needed something from the store this morning, and I offered to go. I looked at her and laughingly ask hubs "Ya think she'll start?"

Well... she didnt!!! The first time since I have had her that I have had any trouble. Have to figure it out, it is either the battery not strong rnough to fully engage the starter (sounds like it anyway) or needs a starter.

*sigh*

Guess she'll sit till it thaws, but I cried anyway.
