I think Carfax will tell you. Ford definatly will if you call them up and ask for a 'history 999 report'.

I'd say it's an LX... the slightly older cars had an "L" model, but I don't believe that carried into 1986.

I don't know that it matters much, unless it matters to you. A potential buyer probably will not care much one way or another. I've never bought a car based solely on model designation, except when I purchased my Probe, and that was because the drivetrain options differed on the LX and GT models, unlike Fox Mustangs.
