92 Maxima Window problem

My son has a 92 Maxiima SE. Lately the windows won't go all the way up and he has to push them up by hand to get them closed. While driving they will fall down as well or they will just fall down without driving. What is the problem and how to fix without spending a fortune?

My brother dealt extensively with this, it's common on 3rd gens. It was something about the window rail breaking or something, and can be a little expensive for the replacement assembly. Something near $100/door. It is not a complicated installation, since he's not a mechanical type and he did them himself. One of them he chose not to fix, he put a fitted block of wood in the door to prop the glass in the up position.

A classic 3rd Gen Max problem. Sounds like you have bad Window Regulator Units. It's the track/guide assembly that the window rides on. There's a plastic pulley on it that fails, and the cable gets fouled and won't operate the window properly.

They are easy to replace yourself. There are several aftermarket options available, but my suggestion is to get them from

. They have a version that uses metal instead of plastic on some of the parts that usually break. They're about $60 a piece, but well worth it. There are options out there for about $35, but the quality is suspect.

Here's a site that shows you how to do the work:

Go to the "How To" link, and select the one on Window Regulator Units.

Good luck, and let me know if you need any help. I've done 3 of mine, and the 4th will be fixed in the next month or so.
