Question: I "Joined" this group 2 days ago... most things are "OT" ?

Not to be "unkind".. but I "joined" this news group a couple days ago with a question and the responses have been GREAT. (and helpful)

HOWEVER - MOST of the posts seem to be "OT" to say the least.

I need/want some assistance on a question about the topic (in this case - toyota) but MOST of the stuff has nothing to do with the news group.

I really do appreciate the "messages" about my original question as they have been useful. The rest of the "OT" crap should go "away"

Just my thoughts and I do REALLY APPRECIATE the responses about my original question on the ability to use my "factory insdtalled" satellite antenna for a GPS.

Just my thoughs.

Then what would everybody do, just be bored answering questions?

Jeez...those quotation marks are as annoying as OT messages. Please stop.

Many of us complained of the same thing you are and finally realized it wouldn't change. Welcome to the group and jump in if you have an opinion. We also do discuss cars when the topic comes up.

Why do you need a gps in your car?

Automated response to most recent OT complaint:

  1. You can use your killfile to avoid most who do the most OT posting.
  2. Our cars are so trouble-free that there is very little to discuss most of the time.
  3. Instead of complaining, you should post a question or comment that *is* on-topic. Most will chime in and help if they can. (and apparently they did?)
  4. You have just created an OT post yourself.

OK... I have received several opinions about my post... however the MOST important thing is that I actually received some GOOD information and other opinions on the original question.

I guess that ther will always be people that have nothing beeter to do than reply with crap, however to those that respond to the question are actually be appreciated by some of of us that are in search of valid information.

For those that do not like the "quotation marks" --- maybe at some point in their life they will understand the intent.

Use asterisks. That makes it a bit more clear that you're not illiterate.

A spell checker would make him look slightly less illiterate, don't you think?

That's ok. It was still a good setup for my post. :)

I don't mind a bit of pain but I don't think I could handle that. Seriously though, I wish you would direct your attention elsewhere.

"Jeff Strickland" ...

Sorry, *nothing* will make that funny.

Maybe the humor of my reply became lost upon you.

Yeah, because before GPS systems came along, people couldn't do things like read maps and ask for directons.

It's easy to understand. You just don't know any better.

About 8 yrs ago, some college kids (from U. of Rochester, IIRC) somehow got permission to stand at the toll booth entrance to the NY State Thruway south of Rochester and ask drivers one really quick question like "Springfield Missouri - East or West?" Something like 60% of drivers got it wrong. Made for a mildly humorous, but pathetic 30 second spot on the local nightly news.

But I *WANT* to carry around one of those great big atlases and have to pull over every half hour and try to wave people down because the atlas doesn't *quite* cover the street I need to go to.

I'm surprised you have a computer. People did just fine for years with a crank telephone and a quill pen...
