My 2003 Silverado is about 3/4" - 1" lower on the drivers side than the passenger side. Does anyone else have this problem? Will the dealer fix it? I weigh around 240 lbs and I am the only one who rides in it. Could my weight cause this? It has 10000 miles and is a year old.
I wish I were an attorney. I see real potential here for some great class action suits. Seriously, I guess either your measuring is not as precise as you may think or constantly carrying weight on one side might cause spring sag (this sounds so far out I'll probably get flamed for even writing it). I honestly don't know. I do think there is some precedent, however. Mattress manufacturers instruct that mattresses be flipped regularly to keep sagging at a minimum. I switch my couch cushions from side to side because I tend to favor one side over the other and I want to avoid unevenness. But, a truck is a whole other matter. Hope someone has the answer. I may need to start steering from the passenger side!
Just a possibility? Is the fuel tank centered or on the driver side? just asking because i guess i have never seen the underside of the new models. if it is on the driver side and was full of fuel that may drop it that small amount. like said just a possibility. is it a 1500? 2500? 3500? the suspensions are quit a bit different. the 1500's i could see 25 gallons of fuel dropping it a fuzz. but not on a 2500 or 3500.maybe fuel is it, maybe not?
My '02 Avalanche drove me to trade it in. It was awefull.
My '04 SS is now doing it too.
I weigh in around 185-190 lbs. I don't think the weight is doing it at all.
I had the Avalanche in for service on it. They found it within spec. I took it upon myself to adjust the torsion bars to try to leve it out the best I could. It helped, but didn't ride good and still had an ugly lean to it.
My SS was great for a while here, now a month and a half old, it's up to the same tricks. I messed with the torsion bars on this one too, and I'm currently trying to weed out a 'teeter-totter' feeling from side to side. What a PITA. I hate torsion bars.
That is definately odd. I know a person like myself is not one to keep a full tank at all times. matter of fact sometimes i think i pushing my limits . lol under empty but still running. anyway if you kept a full tank it sounds like it would be a great smooth level ride :)
Well, I took pickup to a best front end aligment shop in town. He said is was the front spring and was also pulling down the left rear side also. I called the dealer and said is has to be more than 1/2" for them to do anything so I qualify. I won't be able to get it in until the end of the month since I will be out of town. I will keep everyone informed.
Although tempted to start looking at my new truck to see if it's level, I'm not going to. Ignorance is preferable to my obscessing over this. Right now I'm trying to figure out if the driver side door seal is defective because it seems to fold onto itself down toward the front end of the door. I'm wondering if this is a source of wind noise. The passenger side tilts in a little, but isn't folding in. Everyone with a
2003 or 2004 Silverado/Sierra--would you mind checking your door weatherstripping seals and tell me if they fold onto themselves for about 2-3 inches toward the front as they slope downward. Also, found some water on the plastic door sill and it had leaked onto the carpet. Geez I hate stuff like this.
Please do... My new truck is starting to really put me in a bad mood when I drive it.
I got a call from the service manager. Supposedly some "spring isolators" some how fell out of that side. They said it will take 10-12 days for the parts to come in.
I went to the dealer. The service manager didn't know what he was talking about. They wanted to shim up the spring. I told them I wanted a better solution so now they are going to put in new springs.
There is 1 rubber spring isolator on the Top of each front spring. They don't fall out! Even though the truck leans on the Driver side, if you Swapped the spring from the left side to the right, and the right spring to the left, it will still lean on the driver side! When I put Brand New Springs in to Lower them 2" up front, if it was Leaning before, it will still lean. Adding a Second Rubber Spring Isolator to the Top of the Driver side spring normally will cure the problem. It's perfectly safe. Won't fall out if installed correctly.
My 03 Silverado is Level right now. Was when I bought it, and still was when I lowered it. One of my Customers had his 03 Silverado Lowered, not by myself but someone else at work. His is leaning on the Drivers side. In fact it's rubbing the plastic Inner fender well from his 20" wheels, and on the Passenger side it's fine. He'll be back in a week or so and I'll get him level right up in about 30 minutes. Plus I'll have to Align it again because it'll affect that also. I keep around 10 of them Rubber Isolators in stock.
Shim up the spring. What he means is install a second Rubber Spring Isolator on top of the first one. This is shimming up the spring. They may in fact replace your springs, and ADD a second Rubber Spring Isolator also. You'll never know unless you know what to look for, and as long as the Truck is Level and your Happy and it's safe, that's what really matters.
