Ram Air Airbox

I remember seeing a Ram Air airbox in a catalogue once that replaced the stock airbox in my 2000 Silver. From the top it looked like a stock airbox but a tube with a scoop that was located behind the towhooks would force air into the box.

Does anyone know the name of this item, the manufacturer, and where to find one?

Thanks much, Rich

Indeed, a bad place for air intakes. Also, ram air scoops will do nothing for performance

That would depend on whether or not it actually did its job. A real ram air intake set up to draw cooler air with higher pressure would make a difference.

All intakes are designed to draw cool air. You won't get higher pressure, especially by positioning the intakes in a low pressure area like the bottom edge of a bumper. The only time you will get a performance improvment is to get enough air pressure to overcome the suction of the engine. You won't get this happening under 80mph even with a properly placed and designed ram.

Not really. Take a look at some of the K&N underhood units. They eliminate the airbox and stick a filter under the hood in a nice HOT area. A well designed ducted intake using pressure at the base of the windshield or on either side of the radiator will help a bit. Not a huge amount but IF your hunting for HP every little bit helps. On the street it probably wouldn't make enough difference to justify the cost.
