Actually I believe he needs an exhaust manifold, not an intake - ISTR someone telling me that the *older* exhaust manifolds flowed better. Not sure what years though. But you are correct, a "super six" intake and carb would be the ticket if he can find one. He'd need the air cleaner as well, obviously.

I've read that the Super Six is the way to go (Aspen/Volare, correct?). It'd be nice to get a two-barrel on there instead of the one. Any idea of how common/what price these are typically found at in the junkyards?

I just have to say it's so nice to see this thread. It's been a long time since I've thought about "my" A-bodies (only one of them was really mine, but there were four of them in my neighborhood at one point in time. I just posted a little bit of a rambling reminisce in another thread last week) it is really good to see someone working on a "real" car for a change :) They may not be the flashiest or the fastest, but goshdarnit, they're hard to kill...

The intake and exhaust are bolted together - that's why I recommended he just get the whole assembly and go.
right, I forgot about that. That actually makes a lot of sense, then you don't have to worry about fighting those bolts.

I had a couple of slant six darts in the family.
a 64 190 a 65 225 Valiant a 70 225 Dart a 73 or 74 Dart (did they even make a 74 Dart ?) and a later 70's Aspen with a 225 and a factory stick shift.
I really liked the 70 Dart. It was the right mix for an econo box at the time. Power was average for that type of car.
I remember when my Dad got the 73 or 74 Dart. It had much more chrome and junk plastic inside and the air pollution changes turned it into a slug.
By the time the Aspen came out they had done a better job with the smog gear matching the motor and it was a bit better on perfomance but not still up to the 70 Dart. Either way they all rusted away too quick or my sisters totaled them on rainy nights. Steve
That'll be a '64 _170_. This caused no end of confusion, because "170" was the designation for the lower-trimline Dart from '63 through '67, plus Lancer for '61 and '62, and the base engine was also a 170CID slant-6. But, having a Dart 170 or a Lancer 170 did not necessarily mean you had to have a 170 engine.
Darts were sold in the North American market from 1960 through 1976. The '76 model, with various facelifts, was sold in South American markets through 1982. In Mexico, the "Dart" name was applied to what we knew as the Aspen through '81, and to what we knew as the Aries through '89.
So did I. So did a lot of other people. It was the year of highest Dart production. 1965 was a very close second. (I may have these two years reversed)

The Aspen/Volare was a much heavier car. If yours ran well, you must've had the 225 w/2bbl carburetor. The 1bbl cars ran poorly.
