Re: '93 Intrepid Transmission Problems: Even Dealer Stumped! HELP!

In addition to what Bill said I'd add that you should clean the contacts for

{My & Bill's stuff snipped.}

Sounds like a good idea. Could you tell me where the computer for the transmission is located? I'd try tracing the wires from the sensor but that's kind of like watching a ball go down a storm drain and picking the pipe at the river where it will come out; without a map, you're out of luck! :o)

Also, could the intermittent connection cause the rough downshifting?

And could the bad mount also cause the clunk during the rough downshift?

Come to think of it, if the mount is loose or worn, would the transmission move enough when it clunks downshifting while coming to a stop to cause (either internally or through one of the sensor wires connected to it) it to go into limp mode when I start out again?

BTW, the reason I didn't have the mount fixed at the time is that the tech informed me that if it is an internal transmission problem, it would be cheaper to fix the mount while the transmission is out.

Thanks, DSF
