They didn't differ greatly, mostly in details, and it still didn't alter the fundamental problems of a V4.
What *are* the fundamental problems of a V4? - think carefully about this as I have a vehicle with one.
They are unbalanced by nature, the design needs to take that into account, something that Ford failed to do.
Are you suggesting that the German Ford V4 was of a completely different design the British version - just like the V6 I suppose....

Bike or Fulvia ?
Your bike still has much of the same inherent balance problem. However they spend a lot more time and effort in dealing with this. It's also revving far more highly than a Trannie, so the remaining vibrations are more easily damped by good mounts, and less noticeable to the rider.
A Fulvia (or a VR6) isn't a V4, it's a badly mis-aligned inline. The balance is much less troublesome.

I take it you are referring to some of the multiple engined (sort of star formation totalling 48 cylinders plus, of half a dozen or so - one in the land war museum at Duxford, but I can't find any piccies) creations used in tanks
Lancia made a lot of V engines from 1919 on, though their first V4 was in
1921. You have a point about them being wobbly in-lines, as the angle between the cylinders was 22 degrees. AFAIK this was maintained up to the V6's, but they never seemed to settle on where to put the camshaft and how to work the valves. I had a 1930 Dilambda once - a 4 litre V8. The engine was about the physical size of anyone else's big 4 and it had the most tortuous inlet manifold you can imagine (actually cored in the block and head) feeding from an updraught Zenith way down on the near side of the cylinder block. With an 11+ ft. wheelbase it was a bit like driving the Flying Scotsman, but with a steering lock rivalled only by London taxis.I reckon you can blame the V6 on Lancia, as before they made one none of the books reckoned it was possible balance-wise.

4-valve heads with cross-pushrods, everything working off a camshaft somewhere between the banks. Lovely.

And the difference were what between the Cologne V6 and the Essex V6 ?...
