Help. Oil Leaks Everywhere With New Supercharger

Hi Everyone, I really need help here. My Car did not leak oil or use any oil with out the addition of a new supercharger 6psi. Now I cant go a 100 to a 150 miles and I lose a half a quart. and I have oil all over the place. Tranny bell housing a whole lot of oil around the oil filter area and oil by the starter . Oil in the front of the motor by the front main seal..It appears endless. I do have a 123k on the car and I did switch over to synthetic 15-50 and one quart of 10 30 mixed I have done so much work to this car this summer and this really disheartens me. I did the water pump the supercharger. Cleaned the opti...which I believe because of oil is taking a dump on me. I have heard soemthing about breathers and pvc being culprits. I have installed a breather filter where you put the oil but heard this may not be adaquate. Also I did the intake manifold leak and swear that the car had a worse leak after I did it. Im not sure if I did it right. the toip of the motor appears dry nback there but I have felt some oil but its a tremndous amount more at the bottom by the filter and across the tranny bellhousing top down the sides

I hope I havent hurt all the seals. I mean if I am having to much crankcase pressure and theres a way to solve that wont the leaks be stopped to some extent. I am so pissed and so worried at the same time. Im gonna take the intake off tommorow and redo that and I do have to install new optispark also code 16 and 36 so you can see I have a lot of work ahead od me after all the work I did ..I have to go back in and do this shit again and God only knows I may have more problems after.

If theres anyone out here who can help me please offer me whatever suggestions you can so that as I go through this work, I can do it right this time and have better results. Im praying theres hope for me. My car was running great with the super charger.i do not blow and oil out the exhaust. there doesnt appear to bea drop in the intake tube from the superchgharger to the throttle body. I really am limited in what I know and realize I need some serious help.

Sincerely Mike

First of all Synthetic oil does tend to leak past seals and gaskets much more than conventional oil. This is a common problem when older motors are changed over to synthetic. Unfortunately changing back to conventional oil doesn't always stop the leaks.

Next, does your supercharger use an oil line plumbed from the engine for lubrication? If so I would thoroughly check all the connections for that.

Oil leaks can be extremely difficult to track down because the oil tend to blow back across the motor while driving. Start by thoroughly cleaning your engine, carefully avoiding exposing the OptiSpark to excessive water, then run the engine for a few minutes to look for the first signs of your leak. Good luck. - Gary

Mike, When I installed my supercharger, I was losing oil like crazy too. There's a lot of pressure building up in the crankcase, especially under boost. I had routed the PCV valve and the PCV clean air inlet to atmosphere using some 3/8th's vacuum line to get the fumes away from the air inlet for the passenger compartment. Well, as far as I can tell, the oil was condensing in the tube and then it would drip out leaving a huge mess and I'd lose a quart every week or so. I've left both the PCV valve and the clean air side fitting off. I'm looking to get some PCV breather filters like you've gotten but since then, I haven't had any problems.

If you switched to synthetic, then that might be the reason you're having all those leaks. I've heard that synthetic will clean the clogs that you've had previously and voila, oil leak comes back. Sounds like it's about time that you clean up the engine, look for leaks and start doing some oil leak control.

Bruce Thanks for the help...How do I reroute the pcv valve and pcv clean air. Inlet...I have a 93 camaro. I think theres to much pressure myself and I believe that by relieving this pressure, I could probably at least lesson the crankcase presuure and the extent of the oil leaks. Who knows I could have a faulty pcv. I never did check that. Thre only breather I have is a cap that you screw into the valve cover where the engine oil goes. Thats what I meant by a breather. I dont have a pcv breather valve no. What would that be and where could I get it if possible. again your help has been appreciated

sincerely

Thanks Gary...Im gonna do exactly that. My charger does not use oil to cool it. Its a self contained unit. Im gonna do exactly what you said Im gonna put the manifold together clean it up and then start to look for my leaks. I might even put a die in to find them. Thanks again any other suggestions. Should I change back to dino oil

"I do have a 123k on the car" And you bolt on a supercharger? Two words, engine rebuild. You might fix things and fight with it but in the long run it will save you money and heartache to rebuild and do it right from the ground up.
