Power up 97 Explorer and 4x4 hi/low lights blink six times then go out and repeat every few minutes. Reseated all electrical connections under hood (power boxes x2) and problem went away for a while. Any specific suggestions , is the six blinks a code etc? All help appreciated.
Check your front wheel sensor connections.
They are located in or just forward of the wheel well. They can get dirty and report back an incorrect wheel speed, and trip up the computer.
I pulled them apart, sprayed them out with electrical connection cleaner, and put 'em back together. They were quite dirty.
Trace 'em up from the wheel hub, and you'll see where it clicks into a wiring harness connector, that's where you'll need to clean it out.
