Heater Pronlems

Jun 15, 2004 7 Replies

I have a 97 explorer with a 302 and my heater controls always blow heat, unless I turn on max a/c. I've been scratching my head trying to fix this problem. I tried replacing the control panael in the vehicle, but that didn't work. Does anybody have any ideas as to what this problem might be?

Thanks ahead of time, Tony

Common problem.. the heater plenum switch inside the glove box. I have the same problem with my 96exp sport. I have heard all sorts of possible fixes for the problem.. take a look at

. I have thought about giving ita try but not got around to it yet. Let me know if it works. A garage will charge around the $1000cad to remove the dash board to get at the plenum to replace the controler switch.

First of all, I suppose it helps if I spell the subject right....

Thanks for the input and that website. Unfortunaly I can't pay for that site so the information on fixyourford.com will remain a mystery to me. Perhaps somebody knows of another place that could explain to me how to fix this problem.

Tony

Well, I have that a shot. I couldn't get it to fix my problem. As for doing the actual work. It took me about 20 minutes to do it. Aybody have any other ideas? Or do I get to do it the hard way and completly dismantle my dash?

Tony

If you dismantel your dash, let me know how difficult it was and how long it took to do. I just finished replacing my seatbelt buckels. Took 2 hours to get them out, and 15min to put them back in.. Funny how easy it is once you know what you are doing and have the right tools to do the job.

best of luck... matt

I came across this a while back when I was researching solutions to the blend door problem. I still haven't fixed mine...
