RA bushings replacement - Pep Boys

I replaced the passenger-side RA bushings on my '94 Explorer a few months ago, following the instructions in the Haynes book. I'd read the comments about this subject on this newsgroup, and consensus seemed to be that this was the best approach. It took me about 6 hours, and I scratched and bruised my arms R&R'ing the spring.

I attempted to do the same on the driver's side yesterday, and found a few bolts that were so frozen that I gave up. I took it to Pep Boys and they did the job in about 1 1/2 hours. When I asked the mechanic how he removed the spring, he told me "Are you kidding? I cut off the rivets!"

Sounds like you didn't read the newsgroup enough before you did the first side yourself. There have been many posts about how much easier it is to do this by removing the rivets instead of following the ford official procedure. I hope they gave you a decent price, some places charge the "flat rate" based on the official ford procedure even though they just knock out the rivets.

"What, sir, is the use of militia? It is to prevent the establishment of a standing army, the bane of liberty. . . Whenever Government means to invade the rights and liberties of the people, they always attempt to destroy the militia, in order to raise a standing army upon its ruins." -- Debate, U.S. House of Representatives, August 17, 1789

Almost every shop I see does it by cutting the rivets!

I first try to remove the arm, if that fails, here comes the drill and air chisel.
