93 taurur, 3.0 engine, wont start sometimes

i got a 93 taurus, 3.0 GL... for the past two weeks i had a problem with it starting... i recently replace the lock in the ignition and thought that might be the problem.. its like this: the car will start up and run fine.... go to store and then come right out(about 3 minutes) and it will crank, crank, crank, very strong crank, so the battery is good, but it will not start up... i checked the power to the coil and its at 12 volts with the key in run is it know or kinda know its not the new switch(i never messed with the ignition switch, just the lock)... i then take the timing light and put it to the coil wire from the coil to the dist. cap.. got light(so i get high power), do the same to each spark plug wire and get the same so it seems that it is not electrical related... i figure its probably fuel related and think that the injectors are sticking open (well at least one) and i have to wait for the gas that is still pouring out of the injector to evaporate to get the car to start... does this sound right???and if so how do you test the injectors without any special equip. to see which one is leaking or not turning off????? thanks for a reply....

found the problem... it was the COIL.. i checked it first and it seemed to be working, i never had any high priced test equip, just a multi meter, ohms, volts, continuity... and use it and thought that it was working fine... well it is when its not hot... but when hot it leaks.. after taking it off i could see an arc mark on its side... only cost $15 at auto zone so it was a cheap fix.... even if it does not last, at least i know what the problem was and will get a better coil later if this cheap coil burns up.... thanks for all the help, suggestions....

Unusual coil failure symptoms!

Good to keep in mind.

This probably would have been seen if you tried looking in the dark, but who would have thought to, with those symptoms.

Coil failure is USUALLY evidenced by either poor start and/or missing in damp weather, or stumbling/falling flat on face under acceleration.

thanks for the info.. i found it, i think.. it was the Constant Control Relay not putting out the gas for the fuel pump.. it would sometimes and sometimes not... i checked for spark and did not get any(sometimes??).. so i did this.. put in new coil($15 from auto zone) new plug wires, bosh from auto zone( $29.99 but did not cost me anything as i already had bosh in there and they had a lifetime guarantee... just brought back the old ones and got money back.. new rotor and dist. cap. the rotor was in pretty bad shape.. with an ohm meter going from the top of the rotor to the leg that hits each cylinder wire there was bad resistance.... still the same problem.. bought a $39 Actron fuel pump tester and found that i was getting about 40 lbs of pressure when starting up... seemed pretty good.. after about 10 starts and stops the fuel would not go from Zero to 40 again????? looked in the ford shop manual and the ford electric shop book and found the wires that from the relay(CCmodule relay) and then found that there was no 12 volts there??? then looked for the 12 volts from the PCM power control control module that goes to the CCmodule relay and found it and then figured that it was inside the CCmodule relay box, the relay for the fuel pump would sometimes work and sometimes not... i then ran a wire to the fuel pump and had no problem stating it and it seemed to be the problem... got a $150 CC rely module from NAPA for about $50 and put it in and no problem since, 2 days now.. it runs a lot better now that it is getting gas all the time... the problem was solved when i realized that i would rest my hand on top of the radiator plastic covering when looking under the hood and checking the wires to the coil.. sometimes just touching the coil wires with the right hand would get it to start up(what i did not realize is that i was also putting my left hand ontop of the CCrelay module resting my acking back with putting my weight ontop of the relay via my left hand.. thank for all the help...

======================= makes since, you probably had a bad solder joint in the relay box, sticking your hand on it move it enough to make it work.....good job on the diagnosis. sounds like you got it/???? :)
