loss of power ford mondeo td

1998 mk2 ford mondeo 1.8 td endura E engine has started suffering a loss in power mid range. i can feel the turbo kicking in at lower speeds and at motorway cruising speeds but mid range there is nothing, it seems to run out of go at about 2500-4000rpm?? ive checked the turbo and all pipes to and from it and cannot see anything obvious. ive checked the air intake system for leaks i.e inlet manifold, filter housings and again nothing obvious. i dont have much expirience of these cars/engines so any ideas would be greatly appriciated.

Check the MAF (air flow) sensor in the inlet manifold after the airbox - most common, then the MAP (manifold pressure) sensor after the turbo, then check the EGR valve. All these bits get covered in the fine oil mist from the EGR system, especially from not being serviced/oil changes regular enough. Clean these with a solvent cleaner and check the EGR pipes are not blocked then let it fully dry, if not you could blow off a few pipes.
