advance solenoid ...wiring ...MONDEO 1.8 TD 1998

1998 MONDEO 1.8 TD LX

Can anyone please help with the wiring to the advance solenoid of the above motor.

Only two wires to play with ... both are white in colour but they have no marking.

no identification...

which way round do we wire in the replacement advance solenoid...???

If it's a solenoid, it doesn't matter. It'll work either way.

Although I'm sure this will not affect the OP, do any vehicle applications use a flywheel diode connected across solenoid coils? I only ask because in that case it would be quite important to connect it correctly with regard to the polarity of the diode!

Generally surge protection is built into the relevant control circuits. The control units need to have protection built in to allow for any short circuits (between wires, or to +ve or gnd), so it's just as easy to stick an extra diode in the control unit, than what is it to try and build it into an actuator.

If there was an issue with the possibility of damage from wires going on the wrong way, the wires would be coloured differently.

Plus I just so happened to do an advance solenoid on a transit this morning.
