4 x 4 question

On my 91 Bronco 5.8. My 4 wheel drive worked fine, until the 4 wheel drive motor connected to the transfer case crapped out one week. I have the push button, and it wouldn't engage 4 wheel. Had the motor changed, everything worked fine, but I noticed once in 4 wheel, soon as I wasn't in snow or dirt for even a few seconds, the tranny would kick into neutral, in any gear I was in. I would have to throw it into the real neutral, then hit the button back to 2 wheel. Then back to 4 again if I was in deep snow or dirt. This never happened till the day the 4 wheel motor was changed, and all the fluids are always good as well.

It sounds like maybe that new shift motor is not making a complete shift. Have them replace it again.

If the motor is not making a complete shift then how come it stays in thru heavy snow and dirt, but only pops out when theres little snow or just wetness on the roads. It makes sense though, it could be the motor, because it happened as sson as it was replaced and only after that. Thanks

When the truck is in snow or dirt there is slip once on all wheels have better traction there is more force on the drive train.

Right - It takes a strain to make a transmission pop out of gear. The greater traction is providing the strain. The solution is to get it all the way in gear.
