460 question

I'm looking at building up a budget 460 starting with a wrecking yard motor. What are the best stock heads to get for performance, or are they all the same?

429 CJ heads if you can find them, or the years before air pump heads because they have more flow.

Bob, there is a 429 in a '73 Mercury. How can I tell if they're CJ?

-------------------------------------------------- They aren't.The last CJs were in 1971 mustangs, cougars, etc. What application is this 460 for?I'm not sure you need CJ heads unless it's for race, but then it probably wouldn't be a budget build-up.

If it is the original '73 engine it is not a CJ. They did not make a 429CJ in '73.

Isn't that what Brian Orion just said?
