On the nut that holds the fan clutch, is that a left hand thread or right hand?

Right hand. Most of the auto parts stores have the hub tool for about $15.. Some Autozones have loaners if you buy parts from them. Some don't even require that.

So, where did you get your new fan clutch? I bought one from Auto Zone online and it makes a horrible whining noise. It says "Made In China." Please post your results. I may want to take mine back and get a Ford clutch. I got my new fan blade from Ford and it looks exactly like the original so I don't think it is the problem.
As others have said it says on the radiator shroud which way to turn the nut.
I forgot to mention I also have a '91 Explorer.
