Sorry, I was thinking about the original posters comment about pulling a 3,000 lb trailer with his F150 and you mentioned the slack weight laws.
My post was not meant to reflect on your comments as much as point out to the original poster that he might be technically over weight, if he's using a private tag with a 3,000 lb trailer.
You're right, we have to use our heads about towing. I seen daddy pull loads where he has ran stop signs on downhill grades because he couldn't get stopped.

I agree with you because he isn't very far from where I live. It is even possible that I might actually encounter this nut on the streets or highway.

A few clarifications:
#1. I don't own the company #2. I don't drive the trucks #3. We don't do anything that every other company doesn't do. The mfgr ratings on trucks are a joke. #4. Asshole or not, we are here to stay #5. It's not really any of any body elses business as long as we operate safe and the DOT doesn't seem to have a problem with our practices. #6. I don't really remember that original question here, so this will be my last entry in this thread. I'm here to offer real world advice, harvested from years of real world operation of trucks and trailers and your opinion may vary. Doesn't mean my idea or yours is set in concrete, right or wrong. Bottom line, if something works for particular individual, then do it. I don't tow a fifth wheel with an escort or anything like that. Just keep it safe and don't take the numbers in the book as gospel.

Steve's real world experience only proves that he is an idiot. I can tow a loaded boxcar with an F-350. That doesn't mean I can safely haul it cross country or even across town. Contrary to what you "THINK", the addition of added equipment will not increase the load you are legally allowed to haul. That load is stated on the door post. If involved in an accident, don't plan on winning a suit if you are loaded above the limits stated there.
